Ine Indriani is the head of Brainspotting Indonesia, registered clinical psychologist, BSP trainer, supervisor and has worked with survivors of natural disasters since early 2005. Ine created a self-care program for local psychologists and counselors with Brainspotting sessions to help them maintain mental health and minimize limbic countertransference.

Focus of the presentation

We will explore how Brainspotting therapy can be used effectively to help traumatized survivors of destructive weather and geological events.

Indonesia is one of the world's most disaster-prone countries. Due to its location inside the Pacific Ring of Fire, it suffers from frequent earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. Additionally, climate change is driving an increased frequency of severe weather events such as cyclones and heavy rainstorms. Each year, millions of Indonesians suffer from devastating, life-changing impacts of flooding and landslides.

Since 2005, Ine has been actively involved in humanitarian activities to help survivors of disasters in her country. In this presentation, Ine will share her experience of providing Brainspotting therapy, in individual and group settings, for people affected by natural disasters, both children and adults.

Ine will also discuss critical issues that need to be considered by those working with survivors, including the importance of self-care for therapists, in order to protect their own mental health, maintain attunement and avoid burnout.
